Dark and concentrated but better balance than last year. Purple-black colour. Rich and suave with liqueur de cassis flavour. Powerful but without excess. Drink 2020-2030. (16.5 points)

Performs well in the vintage. Lovely layered fruit, a smooth texture and tannins and a fine, fresh finish. Drink 2017-2026. (16.5 points)

 

La Chapelle d'Ausone, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Medium to full bodied. Fine texture and tannins. Fresh and long. Well-crafted wine which is hard to fault. Drink 2018-2030. (17.5 points)

Rich, suave fruit extract. Finely textured. Good length, freshness and persistence. Corresponds to the vintage. Drink 2017-2026. (16.5 points)

Dense, long and powerful though a little more understated this year. Finely crafted tannins. Drink 2020-2030. (17.5 points)

 

Chateau le Tertre Roteboeuf, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Less exotic than recent vintages but stylistically true to form. Expressive red fruit nose. Ripe, round and warm but with energy to the fruit. Tannins are smooth and comforting. Drink 2017-2028. (17 points)

 

Le Dome, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Deep colour. Characteristically fresh, fragrant and long (80% Cabernet Franc). Tight, powerful, tannic frame. A touch less elegance than seen lately. Drink 2018-2030. (17.5 points)

 

Chateau de Fonbel, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Good value as usual. Attractive fruit, round, ripe tannins and a zesty freshness. Drinkable Saint-Emilion at an affordable price. Drink 2014-2020. (15.5 points)

 

Chateau Boutisse, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Plump, round and exuberant. Chocolate-mocha notes. Overt and fleshy with a tannic grip on the finish. Drink 2016-2024. (15.5 points)

 

Chateau Moulin-Saint-Georges, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Fine fruit and tannins but a rather rapier-edged acidity leaves a hard note. A little too vif but should age. Drink 2017-2026. (16 points)

Dark crimson. Ripe, well-judged fruit. Chocolate note on the fruit and tannins are firm but not aggressive. Drink 2016-2025. (16 points)
